Allowed. This wave is a special case because the music changes halfway through. The wave starts with your customized music, and that’s enough.

v.20 is now available for CI2-3-4-5
You will only get this update if you are on the BETA. Check Steam: Episodes 2-3-4-5 BETA for information on how to join.
Due to changes to some internal files, you will regrettably lose:
- Any in-progress mission
- Options
But otherwise, please verify that your profile, career, and high scores are correctly upgraded.
How do I get this update on the IA versions?
It’s still in BETA. When it’s officially released, you’ll also be able to download the IA version from the website.
After 30 days I will run out of download time. Will I have to send an email if I want more downloads for future updates?
Changing to Proton 9.0 worked. It’s showing up and is playable ![]()
I see that in the new episodes every difficulty has to be unlocked with keys, except for rookie which is the default.
I don’t know if this has already been discussed, but I think it would be best to make the Tourist and Veteran difficulties unlocked by default (at least Veteran for consistency with the old versions of the games).
This way there would be no need to farm 10 keys if the game feels too easy, and the Tourist difficulty would work as an even easier option for young kids (I know that the games are very easy on Rookie with the new additions, but still).
Honestly, I dislike the concept of unlocking difficulties entirely.
I’m replaying the games on their Episode variants and got to CI5 now, and I’m so over having to unlock the higher difficulties. Chicken invaders is the only game I’ve ever seen that locks away Medium and Hard difficulties. Usually, the only difficulties games lock away are those stupid “One-Life” difficulties nobody really wants to play in the first place.
I apologize if I’m being a downer, I just don’t want to have to play through the entire game just to get 40 keys to unlock the difficulty I actually wanted to play from the beginning, have practically no keys left to do much of anything else afterwards, and then have to re-play the entire game again a 2nd time before I can really begin to unlock and customize things.
I just don’t get why we gotta unlock the difficulties. It made more sense in the original games because it was honestly brutal and I can understand not wanting that to be someone’s first experience, but I don’t get why you would still do it. I think the majority of people playing the new episodes are returning players anyway.
Many old games did that. For example Diablo 2.
Right now it’s way way better than it was, but the keys still remain a f***ing stupidest addition the game series. I have a whole rant about them - Rant about unlockables and keys grinding
Was it though? Right now we do have few reworked bosses but we also have every weapon reworked so overall I don’t feel much changed. If anything I dare to say SSH in CIU is harder than in the old episodes.
You don’t know that. Also even if it is true it doesn’t mean that the new episodes must be catered to returning players. Probably the biggest reason why they were made is to get them on android after the google play ban to increase player base.
I do indeed believe Superstar Hero was too hard of a difficulty to start off with.
Try it yourself. It’s considerably harder in the original games than in the new Episode variants. You can actually kill the chickens in the first wave, while in the original game, they took like 4 shots to kill per chicken. So even the first wave of the game took considerably longer.
However, I will say I think Episodes increased boss difficulty. I recently beat CIep4 on SSH difficulty, and my attacks were only doing like like 0.20 damage to the Egg Cannon. It took 7 and a half minutes and was really intense. I was struggling to get through the egg and chicken spam, the weapons weren’t doing enough damage to break through and reach the Egg Cannon even with max power.
Something I would love to see is the stronger versions of bosses in CIU be unlockable for Episodes. I would love to fight Egg Cannon Cannon Cannon Cannonade instead, that boss is awesome. Peak design.
I have played my fair share of CI episodes, so no thank you. In CIU I had to sell the SSH skill since it was way harder. Still the point is that I don’t consider old episodes as brutal.
CIU needs some exclusive stuff to attract new players. Reworked bosses for episodes sure, new bosses no. And I feel like cannonade belongs more in the 2nd category.
That is the one achievement I don’t have on any game, because every time I try, SOMETHING kills me unfairly…
I’ve played a ton of difficult games. I’ve even completed every Dead Space game on the hardest difficulty without dying. But somehow, I just can’t do it with chicken invaders. I can’t beat these damn games without dying, something always goes wrong.
Legal and Credits are still presenting 2024 instead of 2025 after next beta update in 2025
Loading screen is presenting 2025.
not really, i believe it will be really amazing if the cannonade will comes in episode 4 serving as an true final boss similar way as bullet hell games have that. for example deathsmiles (mbl in particular since it’s exclusive because of the brutal level 999 difficulty and you can’t blame the requirements to the developers) and it’s sequel iix (the requirements it’s way better than dsmbl imo) have their own true final boss if an player meets some requirements during your run then you are going to receive the true final boss that ppl really wanted to.
for instance the true final bosses in bullet hell games also have an different ending instead not the same one as the final boss.
i’m sure considering this i’d really want to see an deathsmiles-styled true final boss treatment in the episodes (prediction at very last) and having an alternative ending as well what is going to expand the lore first time on history of this franchise.
Egg Cannon is the true final boss of CI4. Cannonade is literally not canon.
Yes
Fixed in v.21
Bug
The “Are you sure you want to buy this for x keys?” string is not translated, is it because it still needs to be localized by the community or is it a bug?
I tried a couple other languages (French and Spanish) and it’s in english there too, it happens in CI3, 4 and 5 (I don’t have 2 so I can’t really check).
Also, in the episodes you can’t buy unlockables without having to abandon a mission, since you can only click on “Continue mission” if there is still a game in progress.
Is there any plan to have a separate “Store” menu to buy stuff without having to give up the main mission? I know that you have to get a game over or complete the game to get the keys with the new system, but still it would be nice to have.
Is the update out on the IA versions?
Whatever happened to video games having secret non-canon bosses that you had to meet certain criteria in order to unlock? Opinions like this just dull game development and make it all less fun than it could be. It wasn’t even too uncommon either, lots of old games had this kind of thing. Like beating the game on the hardest difficulty, or following some cryptic puzzle that you’d just look online how to solve. Then you’d unlock what people usually call a “Super Boss”, which of course was non-canon but served as extra bonus content to challenge players and keep the game more fun.
