If it was a .ZIP, users wouldn’t need to accept the license agreement. The game would need to make the user accept it the first time you open it like in Linux games. Anyways, it’s easier for users to install the game with an installer.

Can I ask what is this?
I’d say it’s the opposite: your pc froze and the game crashed because of that. This error used to appear whenever the screen goes into sleep mode but it should have been fixed.
