CIU version 154 BETA

Yes, new waves after more than 2 years.
I’ll post here in case anyone who can’t have a time to to test. And also some suggestions from me (if possible).


  1. Egg Cartons.

At first time i encounter this wave, i died. But if you have been familiar with this new wave for a long time, it’s able to survive by just standing in the middle of the screen, and then move alternately.

  1. Drain Stopper

If you destroy a barrier first in each “lanes”, that column chickens will fall down (i need someone verify this). Ohh yeah, so shoot them quickly.

  1. Runaway scanner

I love this wave, about how is this design to be a small challenge. This wave also remind me “The Weakest/Strongest Link” wave, which you have to go pass through a small space. And this wave, i’m sure it’s very easy for you to familiar this wave.

  1. Biohazard

    A tough wave in my opinion, chickens that spawn from the portal will chase you. You have to run a lot, and shoot them first.
    This wave also introduce you a new type of barrier (or something)… the round barrier (need a suitable name for this new barrier from from @InterAction_studios ). If you shoot it, it will be charged. Make it full charge to round the “circle”
    Suggestion: I think those chickens should go around the screen, instead of chasing me like that. The Toxic Chicken like that is enough annoying for me, because we are also in the small space to run.

P/s: At first, i thought this wave is the specified wave for Toxic Chicken. But it turns out to be different from my thought. Why?
5. Poultry of the Caribeans

A tough wave, too. But you will familiar it after a while. Those Laser Gun shoot me one by one very fast :skull: you don’t stand a chance to get rest until you destroy 50% number of Heavy Guns.
6. Love at first sight:


Nothing to say, just shoot them.
Question: Why you put “Safe Zone” instead of “Anomally Zone”?
Suggestion: It will be pretty if we are able to stand at two top corner of screen and shoot down the “heart”, just like how “Feather Brain” wave was designed.
7. The side Entrance:

Like its name, you have to move through two anomally zone a lot. And thanks God because we have 8 bombs support us to pass this wave. Also, if you defeat an enemy inside a “cage”, the barriers around it will be destroyed.
Ouch, in some case, you have to stand right in front of them to shoot. I died due to that, their bullets is very fast before i get out of that. I wonder how could BX-users be able to stand at small space like that?
8. The roundabout:


They can escape, so you have to kill all of them quickly. They are able to appear and then disappear quickly.

Oh yeah, what am i waiting for? :v Appear from the left, then escape in the bottom without going around the circle.
9. Thorny Tendrils

(one second before that “sh**t” hit me)

:skull: very tough. You just have a small space to shoot, then go on top and reach the anomally zone, and then shoot the remain enemies. This wave is even harder than The Treasury, which you have to pass this wave like The Treasury, but which more enemies. Like other waves, you will take a while to familiar this, try to shoot the middle quickly, and then go on top to reach the anomally zone.

  1. Ramming Speed


    If you have enough power, you will pass this wave easily. That’s all.

  2. The Bouquet:


    Destroy a barrier that around the chicken to destroy all other indestrutible barrier around that chicken.
    Bug: This wave should not have “Clean Sweap” bonus.

  3. Guitar Plucker


    Move slowly, but they are still able to escape. Enough power will help you to kill all of them.

  4. Let’s go fly a kite

Those “kites” can escape. But i think this is not too hard for you

  1. Mushroom Cloud

Alright, this is another tough wave :skull: They appear from the bottom, make a mushroom like shapes and then… escape ?!
Suggestion: Is this supposed to happen like this, there are so many of them, and while i shoot each enemies, those enemies escape real quick than my thought. I need something rework on this.

  1. The Printer


    Thre will have a full barrier row “scan” the screen. Don’t worry, they won’t hurt you. Just stand at the bottom. And then the enemies appear very fast, make this wave look like how a printer work.

There are many different shapes in this wave. I wonder what are those shapes you added in this wave, iA?

  1. Laser Matrix

    Wait what am i seeing here? :skull: Ok, it turns out to be a specific wave for Chick Laser Gun, just like how Ninja and Asassin Chick have their own specific wave (Among Us). Unlike other waves, those Chick Laser Gun only shoot in a row or column, instead of targeting you, so i think you are able to have a space to dodge.
  2. Claw Machine

    Two claw-like group made from indestructible barriers will “pick up” a group of chickens. You should shoot them quickly before those group of chicken reach your position (the middle space), or even escape. This wave have “Clean Sweap” bonus.
    Bug: Where is “Safe Zone”? We are forcing to stand at the middle.

Oh, hello there

  1. The Gate

Another wave using new barrier. In this wave, shoot to it to switch the barrier, make this wave more like the real gate.
Try not to stand too close to the gate, if you don’t want to be punched by the barrier when the “switch” barrier is fully charge :skull: it switch very fast.

  1. The Oinion

So we have total 3 waves that using the new barrier. Shoot the switch barrier to round the barrier, to shoot the chicken inside (they will also be rounded)
uh… why this name is called by “The Onion”? I only see this wave active like something else, not a real onion.

  1. The Tree of Life

Oh yea :v normal design. But… this wave only spawn a type of Chicken (UFO Chicken in this case). Is this intended?
Just stand on a side and shoot each barriers, the eggshells and the enemies inside, and you will see there is a bomb barrier that is moving on top of the screen. This bomb barrier is linking to the indestructible barrier at the bottom. Destroy it, so you can go to the other side


Some waves that i think it’s possible to become an “epic” wave:

  • Runaway Scanner
  • Biohazard
  • Poultry of the Caribbean
  • Love from first sight
  • Ramming Speed
  • Let’s go fly a kite
  • The Printer
  • Claw machine
  • The Onion
  • The Tree of Life (currently)

Most of them can be full a miniboss chicken in a group, not all chickens during a wave. So yeah :v


This is my first test, using a single mission (4x10, max difficult). I’ll go to test another mission with have lowest difficult later. What did i say something wrong, tell me know, because i just test all total of 20 new waves first time.

no way! actually new content, yippee! Alright, I’m going to give my thoughts a bit.


  1. Egg Cartons

I think these yummies are too fast, perhaps make them slower on easier missions? Also, danger zone marks should present here too. nevermind, there is one, an oversight of mine, how did I not see that?! (current difficulty, around 3% - 6%, no skills)


  1. Gear

I like the sound design of this, ASMR worthy. Just a visual idea: make the orange bar decrease as the gear is performing its actions.


  1. The Gate

The gate seems hazardous if the gear was turned at a closer range (death). Perhaps a subtitle for the wave like “Stand back!” or something similar. as it turned too fast. Debunked by a post below but, I love new mechanics, woo!


  1. Side Entrance

no problems so far, I like this square layout.


  1. Laser Matrix

  1. Claw Machine

The claws are a bit slow, perhaps faster on harder ones (they don’t currently)

i don’t really think it’s a bug but… at the sharp angle of the heart (the bottom), both chickens and the barriers will start the cycle again in a weird way…
I think they should complete the cycle and move smoothly. just like what they do at the top side of the heart!


in Claw Machine, the right claw does not seem to carry the chickens correctly (the chickens aren’t centered correctly

Edit: All claws aren’t carrying the pile of chickens correctly. the chickens move slightly faster than the claw, making it seem to be not centered.

Wow!

New waves after such a long time, and I gotta say these are the best ones you’ve put out, I can tell you’ve had quite a fun time making them, I am excited to see what more waves you’ll add in V155, hopefully you could add some new waves to other mission types as well, for example Comet Chase, Meteor Storm, Supernova, Droid Raids, Retro, etc, as those mission types are pretty lacking and can get boring quickly, Invasions have more than enough waves.


Anyway, here are my thoughts on all 20 of the newly added waves, let’s begin:


So, Let’s Go Fly a Kite consists of a few Kites flying around the screen, after taking one dive, the Kite will fly off the screen, it’s overall a nice and simple wave, not too much of a struggle.


Mushroom Cloud consists of a large group of Chickens forming a Mushroom Cloud, it’s best to stay to the sides of the screen as they are coming up, after that you can slide underneath them and start shooting, however, the Cloud recedes fast, which leads to situations in harder missions where you won’t even be able to clear the entire formation before it goes off screen.


WHAT??? A NEW BARRIER?

This wave features a new type of barrier, not sure about it’s official name yet but I’m gonna go ahead and call it ‘‘Gear Barrier’’.

The wave consists of a large circle composed of multiple layers of barriers, that you have to peel away with the help of the Gear Barriers and kill the chickens around them.

I love this wave so much, and the sound the Gear Barrier makes here is super satisfying.

Drain Stopper is interesting, there are 8 rows of chickens, and each row has a barrier connected to the end, acting as a plug, destroy the plug and you now have flowing chickens.

They fall down pretty fast though so watch out, if you don’t wanna deal with the chickens at all you can also just destroy the barriers and watch the chickens flow, it’s cool to see imo. (Not recommeded in comp missions)


Now we have Egg Cartons, I love the idea here, however the lack of a safe zone and the speed of the Egg Cartons can make this wave pretty frustrating, perhaps shortening the Egg Cartons to just 4 or 5 eggs and having a safe zone between them kind of like in Demolition Crew could make this wave easier to handle.


Another wave featuring the new Gear Barrier, the wave consists of a few groups of chickens separated by a gate, in order to reach the other groups you’ll have to hit the Gear Barrier to elevate it or lower it, one thing I noticed about this wave is that if you happen to be in the way of the Gate as it is being lowered or elevated, it won’t actually hurt you, not sure if that was intended but I kinda like it, since the Gate moves fast it is less punishing for players who get close to the Gear Barrier in order to activate it faster due to the weapon they have.



Now this is one wave I just didn’t understand, and frankly I still don’t understand, but maybe i’m just a big dum dum.

My guess is that the bombs are supposed to open up the path for you, while that may work in lower difficulties, in higher difficulties the bombs just aren’t strong enough to break the destructible barriers, or if they do, there might be a strong enemy inside the square so you’ll end up stuck, resulting in you having to squeeze between two squares and kill the enemies that way, now that is a very effective way to get a frustrating death, especially if you use a BX Ship.

Another problem can arise in situations like the one in the screenshot, since the wave is randomized, the player could end up on a side where there are no destructible barriers in front of them, forcing the player to move to the other side, where again, frustrating deaths can happen, you either bump into a barrier on the way or get shot by an enemy projectile while squeezing through the gap.

So to this end I have come up with a rework for the wave, to make it more Fail-Safe,
Voilà:

The difference here is that there are destructible barriers on both sides, ensuring that no matter which way you are facing when starting the wave, you are always able to form a Side Entrance.

The anomalies can be left in the same spot as before, not sure whether to keep the bombs or not.



Oh boy.
Thorny Tendrils, this wave can be very unforgiving, you first have to destroy the top Tendrils to expose the Anomaly Zone so that you can fire at the ones at the bottom. It’s not as bad on easier difficulties, but on harder difficulties it can get ridiculous. You have the most space to move if you are pinned at the bottom of the screen.

matix has also mentioned some weird behaviour about hitting the Tendrils early on, causing them to aggressively shift position and possibly ram into you, which is indeed the case, however they only shift once fully entered the screen.

Best thing that could be done for this wave would be to have another anomaly zone at the bottom so that you can correct yourself in the event that you hit the top anomaly zone early on, and also increasing the distance between the Tendrils and the Player.



Aye aye, Captain

Yeah so this wave looks absolutely crazy, and that’s because it is.
This might be the hardest wave in the game for me personally, due to the sheer amount of Chick Gatling/Laser guns that can appear, to be honest this wave would be way harder with Chick Gatling guns, since with Laser guns at least you have more time to react.

So uh yeah, you best be on your A game during this wave if you wanna survive.


This wave definitely made my heart beat, mainly out of fear because I did not expect the heart to show up that fast. :joy:

The way the heart moves is mesmerizing, not much to say about this wave, but it’s for sure neat!


This wave is like a mix of two existing waves: The Strongest Link and Three strikes and you’re out!, thankfully you have plenty of space to move between the gap of the Scanner, and it moves slowly anyway so you have more time to react too.


Man, I LOVE this wave, it’s such a cool idea!

This wave utilises the Gear Barrier, which moves around swiftly up and down, and the chickens are forming a Biohazard symbol, as they spawn a few terminator Toxic Chickens also emerge from the Spawners, it is best to take them out as soon as possible before anything else to avoid complications.



This wave is beautiful, you first have to destroy the stems of the flowers to expose the bottom Anomaly Zone, then you can take out the Petals. Only one petal is destructible on each flower, the rest are indestructible, however the rest will disappear once the destructible ones are dealt with.



Ramming Speed is relatively simple, a few groups of chickens that charge forward. (or downward depending on your orientation)


The Printer is a neat wave, it starts off with a Printer printing out different shapes and objects consisting of chickens, you do need to watch out though, as the Hot End of the Printer can hit you if you are right underneath it, you best stay to the side as it’s coming down, overall this wave is nothing hard.


Man, this wave is so awesome looking! I love the way the tree blows in the wind.

The fruits or in this case, eggs are attached to the branches, Each egg containing an enemy,
a bit after the wave starts, a barrier bomb will emerge from the top of the screen, destroying the barrier bomb will cause the Tree Trunk to be destroyed as well, allowing you to sit beneath the tree.



Now we’re onto Claw Machine, two Claws will grab onto packs of chickens from either side, and then drop them in the middle where the player is, falling off screen. The claws move slowly, so you have a good amount of time to kill at least half the chickens while they are still hovering above you, my only complaint about this wave is that it is pretty long, perhaps shortening it would be better?



Onto Cluckmania, I mean, Guitar Plucker.

This wave is pretty cool, you have two anomalies to the side and bombs will pop out frequently from the spawners to help with killing the enemies, chaining multiple bombs at the same time felt pretty good, and it was also syncing slightly with the music currently playing, this makes me wish we could one day have a mission type that is about challenging our sense of rhythm.


This wave is very fun!
You have 4 Anomaly Zones at your disposal, which you can use to position yourself according to which direction the Chickens are travelling, reminds me of the Feather Brain boss fight.



And finally, we have Laser Matrix!

This wave is surprisingly fun as well, and not as challenging as it looks, you have a generous amount of time to get into position before the Chick Laser guns shoot at you, plus the Indestructible ball barriers help to give you more space to breathe, the Chick Laser guns will shift positions every now and then after shooting.


Aaand that’s all 20 waves!
Like I said before, these have been the best waves we’ve gotten in this game in a long time, you have outdone yourself with them, and I can’t wait to encounter them in the live version of the game. :slightly_smiling_face:

For some reason, during the “Drain stopper” wave, the pecking order bonus cannot be received if there is a disappearing row that you have not cleared yet while you are in the sequence.

This actually already a bug or something that you may notice in “Packing Plant” wave. And ye… idk if iA is able to fix this or not.

This might be off-topic to the beta’s entire purpose but can you make the boss/enemies leave the screen if it successfully defeated you (by reversing it’s entering animation), i know it might take a lot of effort but just think about it, iA!

(My sister just suggested this to me lol)

That could work but I don’t know how it will for bosses that give you more room to defeat them (Henterprise, Egg Cannon, Brothers Reunited, Bossa Nova, etc).

The gear counts projectiles impacts, not amount of damage. Fastest way to turn it is the Riddler.

No. Safe zones are where the anomaly zones are, and their labelling takes precedence.

Granted, but the way I’m cutting corners to make calculations faster behaves erratically in sharp corners. I’ve smoothed it out a bit in v.154.2, but it’s still not perfect

Chickens and claw move fully independently, so over time they will drift apart. This is the same problem as e.g. The Packing plant

Speaking about Claw Machine wave. You should change how you design the claw.


I mean… just look at that picture. When the claw stop at the middle and have a delay time before “drop” the group of chickens, this is when Players are at a disadvantage, sometime they can’t clean the top row of group of chickens, especially is on higher difficult.
