Hello everyone, this is my very first post on this forum.
The Yolk Star ™. The final boss of CI3 with a challenging fight and a theme that kicks booty. We all know and love it, sure, and I do too. But, when I first saw the final boss with my own eyes, I felt like it was a bit… underwhelming. I beat CI4 and CI5 on mobile all the way before CI3, and those final bosses actually looked like the thing you saw in the cutscenes… but the Yolk Star didn’t. So with this first post, I’ll go ahead and satisfy my younger self with a reimagining of the Yolk Star boss battle.
Phase 1 - the same idea as the original, except the cannons rotate instead of changing positions - you’d also need to destroy each individual cannon to move onto the 2nd phase.
As for the attacks, you have your standard cannon fire, but also another attack that has the beams converge into a single, larger beam that would try to lock onto you, and you’d have about 0.7s to get out of its way when it locks on before it hits you and you freaking die.
Phase 2 - since going straight into where the cannons were is too risky (since the yolk could just squish you), you’d have to get into the Yolk Star. How? By starting through the big shaft at the middle, of course! The camera would zoom out, and you’d turn right and start moving, then you’d turn up again. A parallax background would also appear for extra immersion. You’ll get shot at (with projectiles instead of lasers, but you’d still have warnings + it’d try to lock onto you like the converging beam attack from ph1), and ambushed by big chickens and terminator chickens. Thankfully though, it wouldn’t really take much firepower to kill them. At some point you will reach a dead end, and once you’ve reached it, you’d make a turn to the left, needing to blow up a weak spot of the Yolk Star so you can get in. You’ll also get ambushed by more terminator chickens while you try to break in, although they only come from the leftmost side of the screen. Should be easy enough.
Phase 3 - here we are, the thing controlling the Yolk Star. It’s literally just the 2nd phase of the original fight, where you have to destroy the yolk. Once you do, you’ll turn right and flee the exploding Yolk Star. As you can imagine, the thing goes boom when you’re outta there. And that’s where it ends. No extra, just the blown-up Yolk Star and a celebration.
August 17th, 2024: I added some concept images made by a member from the CI Discord Server. They’re not exactly as I described here, but they should give you a good enough idea of what the 2nd and 3rd phases could look like.
