UV Backgrounds recreation attempt + Questions and Suggestions

It’s been a while since we’ve seen any progress of UltraVolt, It really inspired me to make these backgrounds myself.

It’s obviously not as good as UV ones for the following reasons:

  • I don’t have the nebulas used there and so I reused the nebulas seen in CIU galaxy screen. If I just had UV nebulas, results would look better. Even with the different coloring technique.
  • Instead of each nebula gets its own colour I instead made a “colour map” which is just a blurry image with colours blended in.

And then added CIU nebulas as source to only get colours based on transparency.

Fun fact: This is similar to how CIU makes the galaxy in max zoom out.

Using a blurred image and instead of using actual assets, CIU used duplicated layer of perlin noise.

And now for the main purpose of the topic, some questions and ideas, will go with questions first straight forward.

  • Will UV be free to play?
  • Can we have more bgs samples? I know we got around 20 different bgs but I guess new ones don’t hurt. Or instead an hour video of these backgrounds, each one shows in 5 seconds.
  • What’s the game story? So far we have no idea of how the story will be. It’s something important to later make enemies based on.
  • How the nebulae look like when they’re separate, I really liked how the nebulas blend with each other that I thought some of them is just one piece connected, and made me wonder how huge the nebulas are in size. Or even their amount.
  • Did the static stars background change? In the medal medal post, I noticed that it uses different background, not sure if this is planned for UV, it doesn’t look good imo.

And for the suggestions I thought about:

  • Ship Controls

I thought it would be similar to CI but when scrolling with the mouse wheel, the ship will rotate around depending on scroll.

  • Background Tweaks

As we have nebulas separate objects, I thought about 2 things here.

  • Similar to CI bgs with them being indirect progress bar, but in UV I thought about making the colors of the nebulas slowly change to a brighter versions. Similar to an experiment iA made:
  • Parallax scrolling, with finally having nebulas separate from the stars, it’s a chance to make them move slower than them in background.

  • Nebula blending issue

What about disabling both animation, blending in low detail mode?
I guess disabling animation might be enough but imo.

If the blending alone is disabled, I guess it might make the game faster, not sure how much it will be ruined.

And that’s for the Ideas, feel free to improve them, That’s it.

and…

Thanks for Reading!

Ahhh…
There is currently no news about UltraVOLT. Could this project have been abandoned altogether?

It’s just something side iA work on it whenever there’s free time:

Colourful star field will be weird with environments colour change

UV was just an idea, iA himself doesn’t know what to do with it >:(

But we have one of the most creative people of the planet Earth too much hyperbole? and we can help iA in this project

I had an idea about it, what if we make it a 3D game with space, nebula clouds, planets, galaxies, clusters etc. where we have to fly our ship to different places.

I don’t know what to do on those places and why even go there in the first place.

But it will all make sense IF ultravolt turns out to be a ‘Story based game’ like CIeps and not ‘Competitive based game’ like CIU.

Most probably, a successor of CI franchise (as CIeps and CIU are already completed)

ULTRAVOLT :high_voltage::high_voltage::high_voltage: coming out in 2028 (real)

Basically limit the colors to not use blue color in hot environment, for example. I don’t know if UV will actually include environments but that would be interesting.

It was suggested to add these bgs to CIU. In my opinion, with this addition, CIU will be an entire different game.

We’ve just got 2 effect implemented to the game, but what we need more in this order whenever iA comes back to it:

  • Player Control
  • Enemies
  • Waves
  • Weapons
  • Bosses

I heard that the engine supports some 3D features (e.g the galaxy in main menu) but I didn’t see support for either models importing, lighting support.

In the first part of the dev log, iA said it will be rouge lite shooter which means:
The game will be:

  • Infinite with randomly generated stages
  • After defeat you’ll be able to buy items to make the game easier to progress and then come back to the first stage (no checkpoints after death)

So I guess it will be story based like the Episodes. We just need to know what’s even the story is about.

oh I understand, UV will be a game similar to ‘Revolution Idle’

Revolution Idle is a free-to-play incremental (idle) game where you automate progress, prestige repeatedly, and watch your numbers grow into the billions and beyond. Unlock new systems like Infinity, Eternity, generators, challenges, and automation as you keep advancing. It also features offline progress, hundreds of achievements, cross-platform cloud saves, and global leaderboards. (written by an AI)

Simply, upgrade and make game faster and easier.
