how about adding an ability to show current active players and you can compare them with you and see their stats and rankings

Only half: you still can’t say which player is online by looking a galaxy map.
That’s not necessary
Maybe it could be:
Yellow star for your own flagship
Green dots for offline players
Green stars for onine players
I would go with dark green for offline, light green for online.
Whatever.edit as you wish
Currently there aren’t enough people logged in at any one time to make this a worthwhile feature. We’ll revisit this idea once we hit a few hundred.
