Quick rarity questions

So to my knowledge there are three different rarities of item available - uncommon, epic(?) and legendary - for Spaceships and their mountable necessities (engines, heat sinks, and reactors).

Twofold question:

1. Obviously rare stuff is better. But with a spaceship, “better” is not immediately obvious. What’s a rare spaceship better at?
2. Are these four types of items the only things with rarities at the moment???

Uncommon - Rare - Legendary

Spacecraft don’t get anything from rarity, besides being a little lighter in terms of Mass stat (gameplay-wise they are absolutely the same).
