About the current state of spacecraft in the game

So you mod the game to test them out ?

Thank you

Changed in v.101 :medal_sports: Idea (I didn’t do 4 because that would overlap the M-40x family)

Changed in v.101 :medal_sports: Idea

@GgWw1175 Incidentally, I’m awarding all medals to you because I don’t know exactly who came up with each idea. If you can give me approximate contributions per person (overall – not for each idea), I’ll proportionately divide the medals between everyone.

The H&C family overlaps with Muller-40x family now though.

In that case it’s fine, because they are both fighter-class spacecraft. I’d like bombers to have more of a separation, though, to drive home the “more firepower, but larger and slower” point .

I believe @Enhawk was the one to first bring up a large chunk of the non-credited changes, at least the change to engines and changing the BX and Müller price ranges.

Speaking of, as amusing as it is to see image, I feel like I have quite enough of these. So feel free to omit any future idea medals I’d get from weapon, spacecraft, or other rework/balance things in general.

I’d like to ask about the specifics of this change on Emerald’s behalf:

Engines now affect maneuverability additively (was previously a multiplier).

I would also argue that the slower speed is enough of a disadvantage to allow the BX-7 to share the same hitbox as the M408, but I’m not sure how the changes to fighter speeds will affect the overall balance of things, so I’d say it’ll do at least for now.
Actually, could you tell us what the new fighter speed values are?

Ugh, this is… complicated. I use a visual editor to set them as a function of rarity, upgrade level, or both.
These are the current non-massive values (there is a -15% penalty on ALL of them on massive environments). Non-massive values are only relevant to bombers (because fighters have infinite speed), but the values are nevertheless present in the code for all spacecraft.

Units are “native pixels per second”. Each rarity gives +30.

H&C 101/201/301
1000.000000
937.500000
875.000000

M-400/404/408
875.000000
812.500000
750.000000

BX-7/8/9
550.000000
500.000000
450.000000

Engines are linearly added on top of the spacecraft speed (before any -15% massive penalty). They are even more complicated, because they use a combinatorial matrix of rarity and upgrade levels. Upgrade level is on the X-axis, rarity is on the Y-axis.

Example for first chart: A common non-upgraded engine has no bonus. A legendary non-upgraded engine has up to +15. A common fully-upgraded engine is +20, and a legendary fully-upgraded engine is +40

As an aside, the relationships are currently linear, but there is support for applying some curvature:

This feature can be used to increase the impact of later upgrades (so the improvement of going from upgrade 0->1 is less than going from 1->2, which in turn is less than 2->3)

So, are insta speed H&C’s and Mullers going away?

No, they are still in the game. I think the backlash from applying max speeds to everything would be huge (it actually already was, in one of the first updates)

My only real concern with this so far is that the speed boost values from engines seem kinda low. Even on a BX-9, which receives 112.5 px/s from the 25% boost, the current bonus from a maxed out legendary hall-effect is higher by a decent amount than the 70 px/s that it will apply now.

Hmm… I’ll double-check. Where does the 25% come from? I only see a max +15% (+67.5) from fuel efficiency.

Indeed the boost was 25%. Something has gone wrong in my numbers since v.100. I’ll fix it.

Just out of curiosity because I remember it differently during first EA versions. How many people exactly complained about it?

Ok, so I’ve corrected things and simplified them as well. The four engines now give +30 each (starting at 0). Each rarity gives +20, each upgrade level gives +15

So maximum boost is 90 + 3 * 20 + 3 * 15 = 195

Don’t really remember – it might be worth revisiting via a poll.

I’m under the impression that unlimited speed is a core gameplay feature that people have got accustomed to over the years, so they’d be reluctant to see it go.

If unlimited speed is removed, then max speed will become a ‘selling point’ of each spacecraft, so it would make sense to have a new spacecraft family (perhaps even the Raven?) that vastly outperforms the others (at some cost).

I’m all for it, but you do it and in different topic. There’s more votes this way. + maybe block lvl 0 users.

CIU is a spin-off. Why are you so afraid to test never before seen features? It’s also still in EA.

As I mentioned on discord, i was only able to find one post complaining about it on the forum: RECRUIT 35 LOG #1 (Episode Universe's Biggest Control Flaw... for the moment)

Well, this particular change has been “tested” in the past, so it’s a special case. In any case, an up-to-date poll can’t harm.

I’ll stop again with the spacecraft changes for now because v.101 already has an extensively reworked weapon system that will probably cause some pain, plus there’s a relatively urgent “being kicked out of League” bug that I want to address ASAP.

New version coming tomorrow morning.

I just realized the speeds for H&C and Mullers were interchanged in my original post About the current state of spacecraft in the game - #108 by InterAction_studios . I have corrected them now.

This is a first approximation, and these numbers will of course be revised – especially if unlimited fighter speed is removed.

Overdrive is good as it is on automatic weapons, no need to change, just add more alternatives with the booster slot like IA said
