This is a simple idea for a spaceship set that’s easy to implement, pretty balanced, and offers a lot more gameplay ultility.
Core idea:
Satellites regain 10% of it’s ammo once a level is completed.
Limited mobility (similar to BX), and limited weapon firepower.
Different ships of this set offer more satellites, but are slower, and easier to get hit.
This spaceship set offers an unique satellite-based gameplay style that’ll shake up the meta quite a lot across the board, making things much more interesting again.
Also because it’s been years since we’ve last got news on new weapons/boosters/satellites/ship sets, and I think it’s time that gets changed, you know what I mean?
Details:
First ship: 3x Satellites, Max firepower: 10
Second ship: 4x Satellites, Max firepower: 9
Third ship: 5x Satellites, Max firepower: 8
I decided to make a 1-1 exchange here mainly because while Satellites themselves are pretty good, they can’t be relied on in a long fight, even with a ship model such as this.
This ship model is meant to encourage a more mixed use of both types of weapons, giving players more skill expression while also making more things possible in the game.
This also uses the game’s existing systems (only requiring a new ship model, and an effect for the satellite refill), so it won’t be a huge investment on @InterAction_studios’s part. More gameplay variety, and not a lot of work required. Win-win!
Where did I get this idea?
I always loved joining lobbies with loaded Satellites and just use both weapons on a BX, but when the Satellites run out it gets a bit stale again, especially in long CI-based levels, so I started to just … rejoin for more Satellite ammo and have some fun.
If a spaceship exists with this concept in mind, it would be a lot more fun to just keep playing, especially in solos where you can’t just log in and out like that for more satellite power.
Do satellites have their firepower system to make them limited?
Models? Are they like hardpoints or new separate ships? If they’re like hardpoints, do these models change the amount of satellites no matter the ship is?
I’ve edited some words and changed some stats to better explain what I mean.
This is supposed to be a new spaceship set, similar to how the Mullers or the BXs are considered to be a spaceship set.
I’ve also tweaked the ammo recovery stat from 15% missing ammo to 10% max ammo, which gives you more control of the ship’s satellite ammo usage instead of constantly seeing the bar go down without much options when it comes to refilling it fully (OCD people will be pissed).
Hardpoints, model names, descriptions, and things like that are more decorational bits that can be decided later on. I’m more focused on the new gameplay that this ship set would bring to the table currently.
Look, I get that it is simple, and many idea forums are much more complex than this, but the game currently, if you look at it’s ship sets, the concepts behind each of them are also just that simple.
H&C: More keys, less firepower
Muller: Nothing special (the default option)
VF: Environment Resistance, less firepower
BX: Slower but more powerful.
It doesn’t have to be complex for it to be fun, in fact it should be easy to understand while also having a high skill ceiling so there’s stuff for people to master.
Also, as I’d previously mentioned, IA really doesn’t seem to be in the mood to invest in some big improvements with this game, so I’m giving an idea that’s pretty easy to implement while also offering something new and exciting, and feels right at home with what we already got.
I’ve updated the post again, rewriting the estimated amount of work the developer needs to do in this scenario. Assuming that every system in the game is handled properly beforehand, this shouldn’t take that much time to pull off.
I’ll work on the post’s decorative details later on though, mainly because time is precious and I’m not sure if it’s even worth spending any more time working on this thing.
I’ll need help with the naming of this spaceship set, but judging by the looks of things, it seems like that will probably not happen.
It’s not like I really care anymore, I’ve tried to bring friends to this game so many times now, and offered ideas on what to do to improve the state of the game that’ll make it much easier to bring new people on, but if the game just likes to be left alone in this state, I guess I’ll just check back on it once every year or so and see how long this’ll last.
After all, even if it’s what you love, you can’t really help it if it doesn’t want your help.
Goodbye for now guys, I’ll see you all in a year.
