what capabilities does it possess? are the spikes detachable and able to be used in a similar way to homing missiles? do chickens come out of the holes? does it have shields? can the spinning lasers on its back detach and move on their own, separate from the boss?

No, actually those spikes are fixed and are considered part of the body and its main attack is the random placement of beams and Terminator chickens like Yolk Star enter the scene and as for its shield, it has a harder body than Yolk Star.
