You could make a fire breathing chickens with a boss of their own. A giant fire controlling chicken. they all breathe fire at a random interval of time, aimed at the player so that we have to keep our distance. The boss can do that as well as take the last fire it breathed and shape it in a shield and other attacks could be the chicken throwing balls of fire and/or ash and make a cloud of smoke which could make it hard to see the chicken as it travels all over the screen and make it harder to aim at the chicken and hit it with whatever weapon the player has. It drops only atoms.
It sounds as an interesting concept but I didn’t understand half of what you wrote
