Lost all my progress even after putting the back folder I did

Hello, I wanted to play the game again after a long time and instead of downloading the website version of CIU I downloaded the steam version, When I launched the game and linked my email it started everything from the beginning. I looked at the tech FAQ for help and tried what it said there but it didn’t work, (The backup folder I had was 29)

So if someone can help me I will appreciate that.
Thanks

You can’t restore your progress from the stand-alone version onto the Steam version by copying the files.

You should first install the stand-alone version, make sure that it still contains/uses your old profile data, and then associate an e-mail with your account which you can use to also log in with the same account on the Steam version.

As you’ve already linked your e-mail to the Steam version, you’ll need to un-associate it first before you can re-use it. (At the main screen, select “Accounts” and then “Change e-mail”. Just put a non-existent e-mail there.)

what if that email, by some chance, was from someone, and he plays CIU using his email?

Ok it worked! But can I change it so I can use the steam version now? or I need to use the stand alone version everytime

Follow these steps in order:

  1. On the Steam version: At the main screen, select “Accounts” and then “Change e-mail”. Just put a non-existent e-mail there.

  2. On the stand-alone version: At the main screen, select “Accounts” and then “Change e-mail”. Put in your e-mail there.

  3. Back on the Steam version: At the main screen, select “Accounts” and then “Link account”. Enter your e-mail again. Check your e-mail for the PIN, enter it here. You can now play using the Steam version.

It won’t allow you to change to an e-mail owned by another user.

Hmmm I did just like that and it still gave me an old beginner save that I completed only 1 wave in it

Which account do you have active? See here: Lost all my progress even after putting the back folder I did - #2 by ordinary_ryxt

Send me your screenshots via a private message.

The problem was indeed that “Make Current” was not selected:
