So he owns the newest generation of Xbox (that’s what I’ll assume since the other consoles you mentioned are the newest gen also) and doesn’t have a phone or laptop? That’s rather a very small percentage of people.

Most probably - you won’t chat at all on consoles. There is a reason you can only find few games that allow you to do that and some of them also require to plug the keyboard. And even if you’d add it you can maybe use some combination for that so the players don’t press it by accident - like maybe pressing L1 and L2 together.
