When you explore a planet and quickly go to recruit icon, and look at the stats of exploration and the ship is done exploring that planet (known by seeing the keys increasing), the stats remain unaltered until you exit and come back again.

Because stats are only updated when you enter them. It would be useless if they were updated every second. Also, it would make additional reasonless work for PC.
